Live at Folsom Field

Unlike many people, I've never loved this release. It isn't that it's Everyday-heavy (I've always really like the album); rather, it's a pretty ho-hum show from an otherwise great tour. LT31 blows it out of the water. That's not to say there aren't parts of it that I like. DON'T DRINK is a great opener and I love how Butch mirrors Stefan's bass lines during the verses. BARTENDER is a strong performance, although I'd never rank it in my top five for the song. The ending run of WHAT WOULD (very punchy), WATCHTOWER (fantastic all tour long and maybe the highlight of the show), SPACE (one of the best Everyday songs), and STAY (a longtime favorite closer of mine) is great, and of course the truly wonderful TWO STEP > ANTS encore (which is the second highlight of the show for me). Some specific things I don't like: ANGEL, which goes on and on (there are plenty of extended versions I do like, but 14:24 is excessive), the broken stop-time intro to WAREHOUSE (never liked it), and RECENTLY, which is both truncated and flubbed. While the LT56 setlist is superior, the performances here edge it out. I hope we get more releases from Spring/Summer 2001 soon, because IMO this release undersells the tour.
