Live at the Hollywood Bowl 09.10.18

As the last show of the Summer 2018 tour, this release benefits from the band having become more comfortable with the Come Tomorrow songs. Compared with LT46 and the Warehouse 2019 release, both of which occurred around two months before this show, the performances have come a long way. Then you have the uniqueness (at least within the realm of official releases) of the orchestra sitting in. Taken together, there's a reason to give this a spin. And strangely, my favorite performances from the show are newer songs that I wouldn't typically gravitate towards. THAT GIRL IS YOU has a groove; it isn't a favorite, but I was down listening to it. HERE ON OUT is beautiful. COME ON is hardly a great song, but this is as good as it's ever likely to sound. I enjoyed SHAKE ME, both the performance and the placement. I even liked SHE, although the solo wasn't the best. And SAMURAI COP was good if not at its Summer 2016 heights. On the low end, Dave once said, "I miss Roi's voice on [ONE SWEET]." Same, Dave. #41 and DON'T DRINK are meh; a lot of noise and not a lot of dynamics. Listening to WHEN I'M WEARY had me thinking there's a reason it's only been played four times. ANTS sounds like hot garbage, and WTF was the beginning to WHY I AM? All in all, one to skip through once in a blue moon.
