Jul 5, 2003 Remaster

This is an awesome show and possibly the best from all of 2003. GREY ST. is a great opener, and truncated versions don't get much better than this. CRUSH makes it a fantastic 1-2 opening punch, and I particularly like Roi's solo. WORLD ENDS is fine; I don't mind the song but also couldn't have done without it. SAY BYE takes it back up a notch (or ten), with a beautiful intro from Carter and Roi. The run from LOVING WINGS through ANGEL is the low point of the show. I don't mind any of the songs, but these aren't particularly great renditions of them, especially ANGEL, which feels slow and lifeless. But then we're back with a direct intro to ANTS, followed by a stunning rendition of CRY FREEDOM (it has its share of bumps, but the jam is top shelf). LAST STOP is a great performance except for the tension release, which was completely botched. STONE is solid (look at me describing their best song as "solid"), and IF I HAD IT and SATELLITE are great performances. JIMI is good, with a playful delivery by Dave throughout. TWO STEP is an outstanding closer. Although it isn't the best performance of the song, this is the first time I've ever heard Roi working the baritone in the background of MAKER, which is great. Dave loses the lyrics a few times during RAPUNZEL, but it's otherwise a great ending. Reading back, my review makes it sound like I'm more lukewarm on the show than I am. Summer 2003 will always have a weirdness to it—it lacks the greatness of Spring/Summer 2002 and Summer 2004—but this show is still a gem. The sound quality is also very good for a stream, and the remaster made it even better, although still not an official release level.
