There are times when Dave & Tim just fall flat, and this is one of them. I find almost nothing to like about this show. The words I would use to describe Dave on this night include tired, lethargic, and above all others, lifeless. Even on the songs that should be the most energetic—like NANCIES, SQUIRM, BARTENDER, and TWO STEP—he just isn't able to deliver. It's pretty clear he was sick; for example, he coughs right after GRACE, and at some point (I didn't write down when) he made alluded to not feeling great. It's unfortunate because it's a nice mix of songs for the era, even if not my personal ideal. The standouts—and this is a stretch, because none of the performances really stand out—are ALLIGATOR PIE, OH, FUNNY THE WAY, CRUSH, and TYPICAL. As an aside, I'll never understand why so many people don't like EH HEE. It's a Dave song through and through, with intricate guitar playing; strange timing; strong juxtaposition between the verses, chorus, and bridge; and vocals that are both high and low. Still, on this night it's lackluster, like the rest of the show. I won't be revisiting this release for a very long time; it just isn't worth it.
