Live Trax Vol. 24

This is a very strong show, but it leaves me wanting to listen to Luther College instead. What I've realized over the last few weeks, after listening to this, LT23, Luther College, and a number of 1999 shows, is that aside from Luther College I have a strong preference for 1999. I think Dave and Tim were just much better that year. That said, here are the highs of this release for me. First, the dialogue. You get a clearly-hungover Dave talking about what he'd do if he could lick his balls. I mean, it's hard to keep a straight face listening to this. RECENTLY is great, and with a very cool outro. TWO STEP is awesome, with great improvisation ("Jesus Christ is coming to a soul near you!"). JIMI features great guitar work by both of them. GRANNY is great, as is LIE IN, especially the solo. LET YOU DOWN is a gem. SAY BYE, NANCIES, TYPICAL, and WAREHOUSE are all stand-outs. On the other hand, CHRISTMAS, SATELLITE, SO MUCH, and MINARETS are below average performances for me, and KILLED GOD does absolutely nothing for me—I've never understood it. Overall it's worth a listen but not a regular return IMO.
