"This is a song called One Sweet World." And so begins one of the greatest shows Dave Matthews has ever played. For me, it's unquestionably the show by which all other Dave & Tim shows are judged. The Winter 1999 tour was almost inarguably better (given the introduction of BTCS songs, longer sets, rounding of Dave's voice, and superior dialogue), but this show is a moment in time that, at least for me, cannot be topped. There's an easiness to the vocals and guitars that is unmatched in any other show. Also, this is before any of the truly brooding songs were written, which contributes to it. I know every guitar note, every lyrical delivery, by heart. Everything about the show is pristine except for the very last note (literally), which Dave doesn't strike quite right. The release includes so many of my favorite Dave & Tim song performances, too numerous to name individually. Here are a few of my favorite moments. Tim's playing on the nature intro to TRIPPING is incredible. What Will Become of Me is stunning. This might be my favorite-ever performance of WHAT WOULD (including by the full band), and love the segue into MINARETS, which is expertly done. I absolutely adore the intro to WAREHOUSE, the SEEK UP vocals are wonderful, and ANTS is as good as it ever has been in a Dave & Tim context. HALLOWEEN is a great, quick hit, and TWO STEP... what a show closer. Dave's delivery of "so, celebrate we will" always gets me. The Dave & Tim show to top all Dave & Tim shows.
