Live at Radio City

I know I’ll get a lot of flack for saying this, but I’ve never been able to get into this show. Yes, it was a momentous occasion, and yes, we have video. And? The performances are all over the place. For example, BARTENDER is halting; OLD DIRT HILL is… I don’t know what to call it; Tim’s solo in LIE IN is grating; SOME DEVIL has potential with an improv intro, but Dave fails to land it; and even the double encore, with great songs, is littered with mistakes and strange performance choices. I also don’t love the sound; Tim is twangy and a lot of the show feels compressed and muffled. There are some highs, like SAVE ME (one of my favorite post-Big Three songs in a Dave & Tim setting) and EH HEE (I know some people hate it), but I would listen to almost any other Dave & Tim release before returning to this one.
